Lydbrook School has been awarded the Mental Health Champions Award!

Mental Health Champions Award 2022

About the Mental Health Champions Award

The Mental Health Champions Award has been created to acknowledge the high quality provision that some schools make to support the mental health and wellbeing of their school community. Good schools have always understood the link between good mental health and achievement. Great schools have also understood the importance of staff mental health and wellbeing in this equation.

As we are becoming more aware of, and open about mental health issues we are seeing greater prominence of support for this increasingly significant health priority.

This award gives schools the opportunity to showcase good practice and to help them identify areas in their provision that would benefit from further development.

Lydbrook Primary School

In order to achieve the award, the school had to devise and implement an effective programme for supporting both students’ and staff mental health. At Lydbrook, initiatives included the Wellbeing Garden project which has made amazing progress over the last couple of years. The Voice Collective singing programme was also chosen, where the Jays class last Summer term composed and performed a fantastic song about 'Friendship'. (Please see the 'Voice Collective' tab under the 'Health and Wellbeing' section to watch their performance).

After a review was submitted to Gloucestershire Healthy Living and Learning, (GHLL) a 'Learning Walk' was undertaken on the 28th January, 2022. This involved Lead Teachers from GHLL visiting the school and seeing the provision which is on offer for mental health. They also spoke to the Y6 Wellbeing Ambassadors, staff, Miss Sprawson (the school's Wellbeing Lead), Mr Lusted and Suzie Phillips, the school's Wellbeing Governor. They were so impressed with the Ambassadors' knowledge and understanding about mental health, and what the school strives to achieve.

Having been recognised for our pioneering achievements so far, the school will continue to develop initiatives to promote mental health for young people throughout the community.
