w/c 22nd June 2020

Hi Everyone

This will be the last letter from me for a while. The tasks continue our theme of Distant Lands with some exciting work on volcanos. I still very much look forward to emails and photos of you at work or of some of the things you have produced. Please keep them coming especially as the Woodpeckers at school love to see what you’ve been up to. Over the summer remember to keep busy and keep practising your weekly tasks (below). I will be checking on Active Learn to top up books and looking on Numbots to see who is whizzing through the levels!

These activities have been set for you to complete with your addition tasks:

  • At least 3 reads aloud to an adult and at least 3 times for a story to be read to you.
  • 1 quiz to support grammar/punctuation from Active Learn.
  • 3 times to practise reading skills from Active Learn.

Remember to click on the little green bug and answer the questions on the text. Lots of you are forgetting to do this.

  • 3 practises of Maths Passport targets. Look at your past passport and check that you can still complete the activities. If you need the targets for the next passport, please let me know and I can send them to you.
  • 3 times on Numbots.

Keep busy and happy.

Mrs Townsend

Welcome to this week’s learning tasks. These activities have been set for you to complete with your regular weekly work:

  • At least 3 reads aloud to an adult and at least 3 times for a story to be read to you.
  • 1 quiz to support grammar/punctuation from Active Learn.
  • 3 times to practise phonic skills from Active Learn.
  • 3 practises of Maths Passport targets. Look at your past passport and check that you can still complete the activities.

I have so enjoyed seeing photographs of your work for the start of our topic Discovering Distant Lands. Your sailing ships have been so colourful, and you’ve found out so many interesting facts. We will continue this week with the next step in our theme which I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

Next week (18th - 24th May) is 'Mental Health Awareness Week', and this year the theme is 'Kindness.'

The children throughout the school have been given the task of doing some kind acts and reporting on those which they have seen. Miss Sprawson would like to do an assembly, when we’re back, celebrating all the good and positive things that have happened over recent months. I have included a powerpoint and a colouring activity for you to use (see below). I also have Kindness Certificates to email out to all of you who have told me about your kindness.

Check out the selection of photos that you’ve sent me. I am trying to make sure I put up one of everyone so please keep sending them to me.

I’ve noticed that quite a few of you have not been using the materials on Active Learn. You were all given a new set of books when we finished school and I regularly look to see how you are doing. I always leave you a message. Please use the Numbots website each week too. I can see who is working hard!

Keep busy and happy Smiling face with no fill

Mrs Townsend

PS

I’m sorry that last weeks tasks using Twinkl were not able to be downloaded but thank you, Mrs Ruck, for helping with this.

We will be working on tasks linked with our Summer Term theme, which is ‘Discovering Distant Lands’. We will be learning about explorers and the countries they discovered, looking at life on board a sailing ship and how life in far off places compares to our own.

Many of the activities will have supporting materials on www.twinkl.co.uk or will be supplied as additional documents with the weekly tasks.

We’re going to be learning such exciting things that I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun during the next few weeks.

Don’t forget to send me emails telling me how you’re doing and, of course, photos of you and your work.

Keep busy and happy

I’ve seen a few record sheets being used by parents to keep track of work as it’s completed. Cyril’s Mum has let me share what she has made. Cyril chooses different pictures each week.  Click on the link below for a copy for you to complete with your child.

If you would like further support to complete the tasks please email me woodpeckers@lydbrook.gloucs.sch.uk . I have been sent lots of photos of work again this week. I have read mini beast stories, seen lots of hands and feet being measured and some excellent book reviews. Well done Woodies!

Keep safe and well

Woodpecker Class Learning Tasks - 27.04.20

Welcome to this week’s learning tasks. These activities have been set for you to complete with your regular weekly work:

  • At least 3 reads aloud to an adult and at least 3 times for a story to be read to you.
  • 1 quiz to support grammar/punctuation from Active Learn.
  • 3 times to practise phonic skills from Active Learn.
  • 3 practises of Maths Passport targets. Look at your past passport and check that you can still complete the activities.
  • 3 times on Numbots.

It is useful to keep a chart to keep a record of what you have done so that you complete all the tasks. Give yourself a reward if you cover everything.

Remember its only 16 tasks a week plus one each day from the weekly activities. Easy!

If you would like further support to complete the tasks please email me woodpeckers@lydbrook.gloucs.sch.uk . I have been sent lots of photos of work this week. I’ve read wonderful stories about magic pencils, I’ve seen photos of weighing and brilliant multiplication calculations taking place, and the results of minibeast hunts. Keep it up Woodies! I’m keeping a list of Dojos that I’ve given out for working hard.

A really good website, for materials and support for the topics, is www.twinkl.co.uk. The links have been provided with previous information.
