Five Acres Art Leadership Team

We have been very lucky to have been joined for some afternoons by the Five Acres Art Leadership Team who have supported us with our sculpture work this term.

With their help we have been able to explore wire and how to use it to create different forms.  We used this to make minibeast sculptures which we hope to display in the wellbeing garden.

We have also linked our work on nature and North America to explore the last coral reef in North America and use it as inspiration for work with clay, which when dried will be fired in the kiln at Five Acres School.

Many thanks to Miss Trumm and the children in the Art Leadership Team!

Bee Visit!

We were so lucky to have a visit from Bob and Rosemary from the Forest of Dean Beekeepers.  They shared their extensive knowledge about honey bees with us which then informed our independent writing task.

They brought the protective clothing, samples of honeycombe and a section from the hive containing bees for us to look at, and we were able to ask them some excellent questions to inform our learning.

What a wonderful opportunity!

Talk Tactics

We have been developing guidelines for listening and discussing in the classroom this year using 'Talk Tactics' which are sentence stems to help the children to have purposeful discussions in a polite way.

Below are the 'Talk tactics' we have been introducing (mainly focussing on build, challenge, probe and summarise) and some photos of the children developing these in structured discussions about their science.

We had an amazing time, on the 8th June, cheering on the cyclists in The Womens Tour stage 3, as they flew at great speed down the road from Joys Green down to Lydbrook!
