Information about reading books for Jays below!

Jays Reading Books

If you would like your child to have a change of reading book, please can you contact us via jays@lydbrook.gloucs.sch.uk.  In this email, could you also send a photo of the list of books from the front of your child's reading record.  This shows us which scheme books they have already read, so we don't send home the same ones they have already had.  These books will then be left either in the school front porch or in the office for you to collect.  If you could please return any finished ones and leave in the box provided, as these can then be quarentined and used at a later date.

Active learn books will still be available online, and are a great way to ensure your child is answering appropriate questions about a text which is at the same level as their school reading books.

Many thanks.

TT Rockstars - Battle of the bands!

Brilliant work Jays we won!   For the week ending 28th February, Jays came first with Hawks coming second and Magpies last.     We now have till next Sunday evening to make sure Jays stay at the top of the leaderboard for the last week of home learning!

Well done to Jays top five players: Max, Lucas, Mia, Lola and Lara!

We can do it again Jays!

TEAMS meetings at 9:45am on Monday and Wednesday

Week begining 1st March to the 5th March

Wow!

It looks like this may be the last week we have to welcome you like this!  Hopefully on Monday 8th March we will be able to see you all in the classroom and continue our secret agent training!

We are sure that you will have many questions and possibly some worries about your return, so our first afternoon task this week will allow you time to think about how you're feeling about your return and share any questions with us.  Wednesday's art will also be about sharing your feelings.

This week, keep up as best you can with the tasks set so we can all come together with a similar understanding of the learning covered.  However do not worry if there are things you have missed as we will be checking to see what areas you need us to go over again once we are back in the classroom.  It would be helpful, however, if you could make sure that any work you have done on your passports is fresh so that those of you who have worked well on them and feel you're ready to move onto the next passport can be tested and moved on through passport control as soon as possible!

We would still love to see all the work you complete through emails, especially main tasks.

Good luck with the plastic cup rhythm in music on Tuesday afternoon, If you work hard Mrs Fellows may share her skills on Wednesday!

Have a great week and see you VERY soon!

Mrs Fellows, Miss Sprawson and Mrs Farr

Week beginning 22nd to the 26th of February

Welcome back secret agents!

We hope you and your families have enjoyed a lovely and restful week, and are looking forward to continuing with your secret agent missions in this new term.

We have lots of exciting tasks for you to complete, as well as resuming our amusing class book, ‘The Accidental Secret Agent’; who knows what Kevin Twigg’s next move will be?

The children who have been attending school have been working very hard, and we have seen some fantastic examples of your work from home. We have very much enjoyed seeing you virtually each week, and we very much hope to be able to welcome you back into the class soon.

In the meantime, it is very important that you carry on completing the activities which have been set for you, particularly the Literacy and Maths, so you don’t miss out on new learning. We are continuing to monitor the online tasks which we are regularly setting, such as MyMaths and Active Learn, so make sure you are completing these.

If you have any questions you can email us at  jays@lydbrook.gloucs.sch.uk

Please continue to send us pictures of your work, and ask any questions which you may have. We will try our best to get back to you as soon as we can.

This week is the start of ‘Fairtrade Fortnight’. This topic celebrates the farmers and workers who grow the food we eat, promoting a living wage and fair trade. We will be learning and talking about this important issue over the next couple of weeks.

Stay safe and keep smiling Secret Agents, we very much hope to see you soon!

Miss Sprawson and Mrs Fellows

Week begining 8th to the 12th of February

Dear Jays,

Welcome to the last week before the half term holiday!

You have all been working so hard to complete the tasks and missions set on the website and to ensure your secret agent academy training is continuing despite lockdown!

Miss Sprawson (006) and Mrs Fellows (005) have both been very impressed by the work you have been sending to the secret academy Jays email.  They have been taking note of the different skills you have been using to enhance your training including resilience, being curious, improving, concentration and co-operation.

This week your mission is to develop your understanding of Internet safety.  In this modern world, the life of a secret agent relies heavily on the use of the internet.   So, to ensure your missions are not compromised, you need to remember about how to stay safe when using the internet.

  • Never give out personal details for yourself, another secret agent or anyone you know!  They are called personal details because they are PERSONAL!
  • Never Download or open something if you have not checked with 005, 006, myself or another trusted adult as you may allow a virus into your computer and all the Jay’s secret agent academy data may be lost!
  • Only ever be kind when playing games or chatting to friends on the internet, as information you put on the internet is permanent, and you never know when you may need their help to escape a country when a mission goes wrong!
  • Never communicate with people you don’t know, as they could be trying to infiltrate the secret agency.
  • Finally, always let a trusted member of the secret agency (or your family) know if there is anything you see or read on the computer which worries or upsets you. Trust your secret agent instincts and let someone know to protect you and other members of the agency!

The main focus for Internet safety day this year (Tuesday 9thFeb) is to understand whether information you gain from the internet is reliable.  Do you trust what you read?  How can you tell if it is truthful?  Where are the best places to find reliable information? Pay attention to your training and bring all valuable information back to the academy using the email jays@lydbrook.gloucs.sch.uk.

Work hard this week Jays and maybe next week 006 and 005 will be kind enough to give you a week off from your secret academy training!

Stay safe!

Stay alert!

Stay secret agents!

Yours sincerely

00M (Head of Secret Service for Lydbrook Primary School)

Week beginning 1st February to the 5th February

Children's Mental Health Week: Express Yourself

External Link Icon Children's Mental Health Week

Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good.

Place2Be has created activities and resources to help children (and adults) to explore the different ways that they can share their thoughts, feelings and ideas. We will be exploring these resources in Jays this week.

In addition:

  • On Monday we are asking the children to wear a colourful outfit/ clothes of their choice to ‘express themselves’.
  • On Monday morning at 9am there will be a live virtual assembly

The assembly will be available to all schools and families at 9am on Monday, 1st February, and will feature pupils and well-known faces discussing the theme of Children’s Mental Health Week, as well as ways that children and young people can get involved at home.

You can join the assembly by visiting this website: click here

There are lots of resources on the Children’s Mental Health Week website that you can use with your child at home; including activity ideas, and tips for parents and carers. Visit Children's Mental Health Week website to find out more.

We would love to see photographs of you 'expressing yourself' so please email your pictures to jays@lydbrook.gloucs.sch.uk

We have attached below a timetable of activities, which will support your learning and skills through the secret agent academy, and will ensure you are ready for any missions you are set!

On Monday at 9.45am following the live assembly we will all meet on Microsoft Teams to ensure you are well prepared for the tasks for the week.

We will meet again on Wednesday at 9:45am to talk about ‘Children’s Mental Health Week’.

Please continue to complete tasks, as best as you can, at the same time as the children in school, as this will help you stay in a routine ready for when you are back in school.

We are really enjoying seeing all the wonderful work you are doing, being emailed to us at jays@lydbrook.gloucs.sch.uk, so please continue with this.  Also use this email address if you have any questions or things you think we might be able to help you with.

Please look at the Home Learning Gallery tab to see your wonderful work so far, including the poetry PowerPoint which was shown at last Wednesday’s team meeting.

Are you ready for your week’s missions?

Week Begining 11th January 2021

Dear Parents and Carers of the Jays Class,

We hope we find you and your families well during this difficult time. We have been extremely sorry not to be able to welcome all the children back in class this week, and we look forward to their return as soon as it is possible.

In the meantime, we will do everything we can to continue the children’s learning remotely. You will find the timetable for this week’s lessons below, as well as the detailed plan for Monday. As Mr Lusted has said, the website will then be updated each evening with the learning tasks for the next day.

We are very much looking forward to introducing our exciting new theme at the end of next week!

Please do not hesitate to contact us at jays@lydbrook.gloucs.sch.uk if you have any questions and we will respond as soon as is possible.

With best wishes to you and the children,

Miss Sprawson and Mrs Fellows

* We have added some daily Wellbeing activities linked to 'The 5 Ways To Wellbeing' for your children to enjoy.

We would love any photos that you take of your children completing these activities sent to the above email address. They will be updated each week.

Thank you!

Rising Stars maths books from the home learning packs

Each child in Jays class received a maths text-book in their packs for home.

These books were used by the school a few years ago and instead of them just gathering dust in our cupboard, as we no longer use them in class, we sent them home for the children.

As of Monday there will be a timetable of activities planned for the children based on what we have learnt and some new teaching.  We may suggest occasional pages from the Rising Stars books to support this work but the book itself is not the main maths teaching, it is purely there if you need/want extra activities for your child.

Due to the nature and style of the text book combined with the fact that most children have gaps in their mathematical understanding due to the last lockdown, it is unlikely that your child will be able to work through the book independently and may find parts very difficult.  Please feel free to use the pages you feel confident with and ignore others.

In the cover letter in the pack we suggested only looking at units 1 and 2 as these are areas we have covered in school, however they may still find them tricky and require support.

Please feel free to judge for yourself.  If your child is enjoying the challenge and you feel confident supporting them, use the book to supplement the weekly tasks.  If your child becomes worried by the activities or you feel unable to support them adequately, then please just stick to the weekly tasks planned on the Jays class page on the school website.

Apologies if anyone felt confused by the text book or cover letter but please feel free to email jays@lydbrook.gloucs.sch.uk if you have any questions.

Stay Safe

Thanks for your continued support

Mrs Fellows and Miss Sprawson
