Hawks visited Puzzlewood to immerse themselves in a very special part of the story of Macbeth.
The children reminded themselves of the first time Macbeth met the witches by reading an extract from one of our favourite retellings - you can enjoy the children sharing part of this extract in the video below.
When Macbeth met the witches for the second time, they were brewing a spell and adding gruesome ingredients into their cauldron. The children were tasked with finding the ingredients that were hidden in the woodland. We then performed the infamous witches' spell around the cauldron before enjoying some delicious witches’ fingers that we made the day before!
"Macbeth will never be defeated until great Birnam Wood walks to Dunsinane!"
We then shared the next part of the story where the weird sisters shared three more prophecies with Macbeth including, "Macbeth shall never be defeated until great Birnam Wood walks to Dunsinane.'
We imagined Puzzlewood coming alive! As we walked around the wood, we thought of creative phrases that we could use in our writing back at school. We also looked for trees that looked that they had faces and these inspired some fantastic artwork back in the classroom.

Our visit to Puzzlewood inspired some amazing pieces of artwork! Using oil pastels and paint, we created trees with faces. We also used oil pastels to create autumn leaves.
