Dear Parents,

Please open the document below for an overview of learning linked to this term’s exciting new theme, Ancient Greece, for you to use with your child at home if they are not coming in to school.  These plans reflect what I will be teaching in the classroom during this term.

Please remember that these are additional activities to the ‘must do’ tasks. To support your child in ensuring that they have completed all of their ‘must do’ tasks by the end of each week, I have included a suggested timetable along with a checklist in a separate document for you to use at home (please find below).

The ancient Greece theme is mainly history based, and for each week of the Summer Term I have given your child an area, such as the Trojan War, to explore as well as key questions to guide their historical enquiry and a suggested writing outcome.  I have also included links to other subjects including PE, Art, Design and Technology and Computing. I will add resources to support your child’s learning to this page; I will upload the supporting resources when we use them in school. This will hopefully ensure that, if your child does return to school, they will not have covered aspects of the topic that we have not learnt about in the classroom.

In addition, I have also included home learning resources for subjects not linked to our theme including Maths, Spellings and Science.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance, but please be mindful that I will be teaching full time so it may take me a little longer to reply to your email.

If your child is attending school on either a Monday and Tuesday, or Thursday and Friday, they do not need to access the home learning on this page as we will be learning about the ancient Greeks in school. I will be expecting these children to complete the following 'must do' tasks on the days when they are not in school:

  • 2 x My Maths
  • 2 practice sessions on TTRockstars
  • 2 practices of Maths Passport Targets (see Maths Passport area of the school website for links to online games)
  • At least 4 reads per week with 5 Bug Club questions for any of the books on Active Learn.
  • A complete sequence of questions for a spelling, punctuation or grammar task set on Active Learn

The 'must do' tasks for the children not coming in to school can be found in the document below with a suggested timetable and checklist.

Best wishes,

Mrs Hughes

These are some of the fantastic ancient Greek pot designs created in the classroom this week...

We created these by drawing around the template onto cardboard.

First, we painted all of the pots in terracotta. When they were dry, we used black paint to create the detail.

Remember, if you have a go at this activity at home I would love to see your finished designs.

Here is a labyrinth made in the classroom this week. Notice how we adapted ours to create marble runs. We also drew pictures of the minotaur for the middle of the maze. I would love to see your creations if you try this at home!
